KangHee Kim is a South Korean DACA recipient whose work reflects the nature of her status as an American.

Due to the restriction of her visa status, Kim has been unable to leave the United States for over 10 years — meaning she has not been able to return to her native country.

Kim photographs the world within her grasp, the geography she is permitted to cover, namely the 50 states. She then stitches various images together digitally to create a surreal landscape of the world she dreams she could access. Kim has also quickly become a master of the technological tools that define her generation. By moving the picture-making process away from being solely dependent on the camera, she has placed her work firmly within the tools that have come to define society.
